CNM Electrical Trade Program

The electrical trades program at Central New Mexico Community College provides students with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and technical skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. Its employment rates and earnings for graduates are impressive. So, too, is the program’s dedication to engaging young students—from summer campers to Girl Scouts to high schoolers—and encouraging them to consider careers in the electrical trades. Much of that outreach is targeted to girls, as women are underrepresented in the field. The program also works with Habitat for Humanity so students can get the hands-on experience of performing all the required electrical wiring work on a new home. All of this is done with a strong focus on equity, as most of the program’s students come from traditionally underrepresented minority groups.
