Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy has served as president of Renton Technical College since July 2015. He previously held positions as the vice president of instruction at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (Kirkland, Washington); dean of the Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute at Bellevue College (Bellevue, Washington); and associate vice president of instruction at Blue Mountain Community College (Pendleton, Oregon). Kevin has a BA from the University of Virginia and an MA/Ph.D. in American history from the University of Mississippi. Kevin began his career in education as a teacher, administrator, and ranch manager at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado. He also taught as a full-time instructor of history at the University of Mississippi and a visiting assistant professor of history at the University of Georgia.

As president, Kevin has served on the Washington Community and Technical Colleges presidents’ committees for educational services, strategic visioning, and equity. He chaired the board of directors of both the Washington Executive Leadership Academy and the Community and Technical College Leadership Development Association. He has also helped lead State Board of Community and Technical Colleges workgroups on workforce enrollment, apprenticeship funding, and, currently, leadership development. Locally, Kevin serves on the board of the Renton Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the (Renton) Mayor’s Inclusion Taskforce.

Kevin lives in Bellevue, Washington, with his wife, Marty, and dog, Buddy; their twin grandsons live with their parents in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kevin and Marty enjoy traveling, home renovation, and yard work.
