Charles Nwankwo

Dr. Charles Nwankwo was unanimously elected the fifth president of Clovis Community College (CCC) in October 2019. He assumed office in February 2020, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Nwankwo is passionate about community college education with its access-driven mission, commitment to student success, and equitable outcomes for all students. At CCC, Nwankwo’s leadership has focused on leading the institution through the pandemic, solidifying a “Caring College” culture, and transforming the institution through acceptance into the Achieving the Dream network.

Nwankwo has partnered with businesses, community organizations, and other educational institutions throughout his career to advance relevant programs that promote workforce and economic development. He believes in building a strong, cooperative, team-centered environment. Nwankwo’s leadership style is rooted in the core values of authenticity, integrity, respect, trust, and personal growth.

In addition to his time at CCC, Nwankwo has broad experience in Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas community college districts. He has served on the AACC Commission on Academics, Student Success and Community Development and the AACC Commission on Economics and Workforce Development. In addition, Nwankwo has participated in the White House Summit on Educational Excellence for Minority Students as well as various chambers of commerce throughout his career.

Nwankwo holds a doctorate in education administration with an emphasis in community college leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in environmental toxicology, and a bachelor’s in environmental biology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
