Sunem Beaton-Garcia

Dr. Sunem Beaton-Garcia is the eleventh president of Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC). She is the first woman and first Latina to lead the college.

In her first year as president, her primary focus was to strengthen workforce initiatives and build talent supply to meet employer demand. She also focused on deepening the college's connection to its four-year partners and adding an associate of arts degree to the college.

Beaton-Garcia has more than 25 years of instructional experience in education, with 12 years in higher education. Her career includes notable accomplishments for a culture of collaboration and teaching excellence, transformational academic programs and innovation in student support, community engagement, and resource generation and stewardship.

She previously served as the North Campus president and vice-provost for academic services at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She also served as the interim campus president for the central and south campuses, holding responsibility for teaching excellence and learning academic resources.

Beaton-Garcia is a passionate advocate for the community and CVTC, and serves on various local, state, and national boards.

Under her leadership, CVTC has been recognized as a military friendly college. The institution has also been recognized by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program as one of the top 150 two-year colleges in the nation.
