Veronica Garcia

2021-22 Aspen New Presidents Fellow
Dr. Veronica Garcia, president of Northeast Lakeview College (NLC), began her tenure in 2017. Through her leadership NLC received accreditation, the ability to award federal financial aid and veterans' benefits, and Hispanic-Serving Institution designation. These provided for expanded academic and workforce offerings to community members in northeast Bexar County and adjacent Comal and Guadalupe Counties.

Garcia contributed to the Alamo Colleges District receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and Achieving the Dream Leader College of Distinction Certification. Additionally, NLC is recognized as one of the 10 Most Admired Colleges and Universities to Watch, Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges, one of 50 Best Community Colleges in the U.S., and a 2020 Progress Level Performance Excellence Award recipient from the Quality Texas Foundation.

Performing in top-level community college roles in Arizona and Oregon, Dr. Garcia’s classroom experience and curriculum development provide a strong foundation for student advocacy. She is dedicated to streamlining student intake services and aligning academic and student affairs. Her experience with establishing an on-campus Veterans Center earned her the Service to Veterans Recognition Award from Portland State University and Portland Community College and paved the way for receiving $7.7 million in state funding for a stand-alone Veterans Center at NLC.

Garcia sits on the local Chamber of Commerce board, is a member of the area’s regional economic development partnership, participates in Rotary Club, and engages with representatives from the local school districts and business community.

Garcia holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Oregon State University, an M.Ed. in leadership from Northern Arizona University, a B.S. in business administration from the University of Arizona, and a faculty standard certification.
