Bill Comey

2021-22 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellow
Through a variety of roles, Dr. Bill Comey has dedicated his career to developing innovative programs and services that expand access to higher education; assisting students in identifying and achieving their goals; enhancing the learning environment; and serving the community.

He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in college counseling from the University of Delaware, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from the George Washington University.

Dr. Comey serves as the vice president for operations and planning at the College of Southern Maryland. CSM is a multi-campus, regional community college located south of Washington, D.C. While at CSM, Dr. Comey has had responsibility for a wide variety of areas including student services, enrollment management, campus operations, distance learning, instructional support, facilities management, information technology, institutional research, library services, public safety, student life and athletics, and auxiliary services.

In addition to his role as chief operations officer at CSM, he serves on the college’s senior leadership team, plays an active role in strategic planning and outcomes assessment, manages emergency operations, coordinates the college’s accreditation efforts, contributes to state and regional higher education initiatives, and provides oversight and leadership for capital projects across four campuses and two instructional sites.
