Susan Bowen

Dr. Susan Bowen’s professional experience in higher education spans over 32 years, with a progression of leadership opportunities in various educational sectors, including public and private institutions and institutions offering two and four year degree programs. Presently, Susan serves as the Vice President, Chief Campus Operations Officer at Durham Technical Community College, Durham, North Carolina. This position provides leadership to the Campus Operations division including Campus Police and Public Safety, Facilities Services, Information Technology Services, Instructional Technologies, operations at the Orange County Campus and Northern Durham Campus, and college auxiliary services. These areas provide the core infrastructure, security, and technology support for the college.

Prior to Durham Technical Community College, Susan served as the Associate Vice President for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer at The University of Scranton, Chief Information Officer at Mercer County Community College and Camden County Community College. While at Mercer County Community College, Susan also served as the Interim Vice President for Administration and Chief Business Officer. Susan began her career at The College of New Jersey where she held several administrative positions including the Director of Information Technology. Susan has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the undergraduate and graduate level, teaching both in the classroom and online.

Susan has contributed and gained valuable experience through committee membership and leadership opportunities at the college, regional, and national level. She served as the Co-Chair of the Mercer County Community College Middle States Accreditation Self Study and as Co-Chair of the Mercer Leadership Academy. At the regional and national level, Susan served as an evaluator on Middle States accreditation visits; served as a Board member of the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER) network and New Jersey Regional and Education (NJEDge) statewide network; participates in mentoring opportunities at EDUCAUSE and in the University of Pennsylvania Executive Doctorate Program and frequently speaks on topics relating to technology innovation, project management and organizational leadership.

Susan received her doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania, Master of Arts in Business and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, both from The College of New Jersey. Susan also participated in the Institute of Education Management at Harvard University and the Executive Leadership Institute sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College.
