Darryl Jones

Dr. Darryl Jones (he/him) is the vice president for Academic Affairs at Hudson County Community College. Located in Jersey City, New Jersey, the College serves one of the most ethnically diverse and densely populated communities in the United States. As the chief academic officer and a member of the president’s Cabinet, he provides vision and leadership for the Journal Square and North Hudson Campuses, the College Libraries, the Center for Online Learning, Center for Teaching, Learning and Innovation and all credit bearing Academic Divisions. He is also responsible for overseeing the development of and building the academic programs of the college by guiding and supporting the division deans on curricula, program design, teaching, and related student success areas.

He served as vice president at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in York, Pennsylvania for four years leading administrative operations, college advancement and fundraising initiatives. Jones also held the position of Associate vice president for Academic Affairs and dean at the College of New Rochelle. As a grant writer, he has assisted various institutions in securing over $15 million in federal and state grants as well as corporate and private donations.

As a first-generation college graduate and an educator, he passionately believes that higher education is an ideal place for free-thinking, open communication and dialogue across diverse communities, disciplines, and organizational structures. Jones holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Union Institute, a master’s degree from Howard University, and a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. In 2021, he was recognized as Educator of the Year by The Nu Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., New Jersey.
