Lamata Mitchell

Dr. Lamata Mitchell has over 25 years of work experience in academic affairs. SDr. Mitchell serves as the vice provost for academic affairs and student learning for the Pima Community College District. Previously, she served in the community college system.

Dr. Mitchell has extensive experience in student success, assessment of student learning, and classroom innovation. Dr. Mitchell oversees all programs pertaining to instruction, curriculum development, and academic improvement. She ensures that the programs developed transition into successful pathways for all learners. Her leadership of student success initiatives such as Guided Pathways focuses on implementing strategies that close the equity gap for disadvantaged students.

As a leader, Dr. Mitchell is committed to creating opportunities for learners who, by traditional standards, have not had the option to achieve their own potential. She believes higher education must be accessible, affordable, and student centered. This belief informs why she pays attention to student demographics as well as to the evolving needs of the community the college serves.

Dr. Mitchell holds a Ph.D. in post-Colonial literature, a master of arts in publishing and journalism, and a master of arts in English.
