Dr. Carlos Amaya is a native of El Paso and a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned a B.S. in Biology. He went on to complete both his M.S. in Biology and Ph.D. in Quantitative Biology at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Amaya has been a dedicated member of the El Paso Community College (EPCC) community for 18 years. He began his career at the college as a biology faculty member at the Valle Verde Campus. In 2016, he transitioned into academic leadership, first serving as Dean of Math and Science at Valle Verde. He later served as Interim Associate Vice President of Workforce and Continuing Education before becoming Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services in 2021where he served until the spring of 2026. Dr. Amaya has now assumed the role of Vice President of Instruction and Workforce Education/Chief Academic Officer.

In his current role, Dr. Amaya oversees all instructional programs, academic support services, including libraries, counseling and advising, and Dual Credit/Early College High School and Pathways in Technology High School instructional areas, as well as workforce development initiatives.

Committed to supporting faculty innovation and student achievement, Dr. Amaya continues to serve the college and broader community by ensuring that all students have the support and opportunities they need for an excellent education.
