Dr. Michele J. Carter became the sixth Chancellor of Central Texas College on September 1, 2023. She is the first African American and woman to hold the position in the institution’s 60-year history. Having served in numerous positions throughout her 34-year career with the College, from a receptionist with no college degree to Chancellor, Dr. Carter understands firsthand the transformative power of higher education. She is an alumna of Central Texas College and a first-generation college graduate.

Dr. Carter serves on numerous boards, including Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG), Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Central Texas, and Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce Public Policy and Military Relations Councils. In addition, she serves on the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Principles Review Committee, Higher Education Research and Development Institute (HERDI) South Advisory Board, and the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) Business Advisory Council and Legislative Committee.

Dr. Carter earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University, a Master of Business Administration from Tarleton State University, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Texas, and associate degree in General Studies from Central Texas College.

Dr. Carter and her husband, Antonio, are the proud parents of one daughter and son-in-love, and doting grandparents of their adorable granddaughter.
