Peter Lindstrom
Denver, CO
United States
Peter Lindstrom currently serves as Interim President at Community College of Denver. He has lived in Colorado most of his life, growing up in Boulder, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and English Literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University. Mr. Lindstrom has been with CCD since 2009 and his previous roles include Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Instruction serving multiple pathways, Director of Teaching Learning Center & Online Learning, Assistant Professor of Developmental English, and Instructor of Developmental English.
He began his higher education career in the classroom as an adjunct instructor and immediately felt the call to serve students. And, similar to many student experiences in community college, he balanced two jobs during this time of transition, continuing as the owner/operator of a small interior trim carpentry business while teaching classes on campus two days a week. The student-centered mission of the college, coupled with the diverse experiences brought by the students themselves, aligned with Mr. Lindstrom’s core value of making positive change in the world. Moving into a full-time faculty role, he closed his carpentry business to focus completely on higher education.
Similar to many faculty, staff, and students at CCD, Mr. Lindstrom comes from a diverse family in terms of race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identification, socioeconomic status, political and religious views. They are made up Christians, Buddhists, atheists, union tradespeople and CEOs; have roots in California and Japan; and run the gamut of the political spectrum. But they gather, respect, and celebrate each other. These close family relationships continuously serve to reinforce and inform the equity work that has been a central feature of his tenure in higher education.
