Dr. Tina M. King is a transformative educational leader guided by inclusive excellence, equity-mindedness, and institutional responsibility for student success. She has served across every sector of public education in California, beginning her career as a middle school teacher in the Compton Unified School District. A tireless advocate for students and educators, Dr. King is deeply committed to advancing equity, improving outcomes, and shaping effective public education policy.
After a distinguished K–12 career, Dr. King transitioned to postsecondary education, serving as Student Affairs Officer at California State University, Fullerton. She later became the first Director of Institutional Research and Planning at North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) in the North Orange County Community College District. Promoted to Dean of Instruction and Student Services and Chief Student Services Officer, she led strategic enrollment management, advanced the Guided Pathways Initiative, co-developed data metrics for the LaunchBoard Adult Education Project, and co-led the redevelopment of Student Learning Outcomes.
Dr. King currently serves as President of San Diego College of Continuing Education, overseeing and advocating for 30,000 students. She has launched comprehensive reforms to strengthen teaching, learning, and student success, including the San Diego Advance Noncredit and Credit Alignment partnership to create seamless pathways to degrees and certificates. She is also leading the $35 million renovation of the historic Educational Cultural Complex Theatre.
Previously, as Assistant Superintendent and Vice President for Student Affairs at Southwestern College, she secured a $3 million equity-focused grant, established the first LGBTQIA+ Learning Community, launched a Personal Wellness Center, spearheaded a Basic Needs Hub, and advanced a $90 million Student Union Complex.
Dr. King also teaches at San Diego State University and holds degrees from California State University, Northridge; the University of Southern California; and a doctorate from California State University, Fullerton.
