Ali Mageehon

2020-21 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellow
Dr. Ali Mageehon started as vice president of instruction at Southwestern Oregon Community College in May of 2017. Her work as vice president of instruction includes supervision of four deans, the director of nursing, the executive director of the Small Business Development Center, the executive director of the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute, 54 full-time faculty, and over 100 part-time faculty each term.

Dr. Mageehon has been in Oregon since 2009 and has worked at both Portland Community College and Umpqua Community College. She is also active in the community, serving on the Southern Oregon Workforce Investment Board, the Coos Head Food Co-Op board, and the Oregon Medical Board as a public member, and she is a member of Zonta International.

Dr. Mageehon completed a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Denver, a master’s degree in rhetoric and composition from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a doctorate degree in higher education with an emphasis in adult pedagogy from the University of Denver. She has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has a published monograph title Value, Belief and Experience in Women’s Jail Based Education.

In her spare time, Dr. Mageehon enjoys reading, cooking, yoga, running, and playing with her two dogs.
