Transfer Scholars Network

The Transfer Scholars Network aims to increase the number of high-achieving lower-income community college students who attend colleges and universities with high graduation rates. We work with admissions representatives from American Talent Initiative members and a set of nominating community colleges to connect these students to opportunities at four-year colleges and universities with high graduation rates.

Introduction

The Transfer Scholars Network is an outgrowth of the American Talent Initiative, responding to members’ interest in expanding opportunity for community college students to transfer to ATI member institutions. Research shows that community college students transfer to colleges and universities with high graduation rates less frequently than to other four-year institutions.  Yet, those who transfer to four-year colleges and universities with high graduation rates—including students from lower-income backgrounds—attain bachelor’s degrees at higher rates. The Transfer Scholars Network aims to expand opportunity by seeking nominations of high-achieving, lower-income students from community colleges and then aggregating nominees to share with participating ATI members committed to expanding transfer opportunity.  The Transfer Scholars Network is made possible through a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
