Adam Hutchison

In January 2020, Dr. Adam Hutchison joined Virginia Highlands Community College as its seventh president. Before coming to Virginia, he worked at Texas State Technical College in a number of faculty and administrative positions, including department chair, chief of staff, vice president for instruction, and provost.

Hutchison has served on advisory councils and committees for workforce and education issues, including a gubernatorial appointment to the Texas Workforce Investment Council. He currently serves as a chair and evaluator for regional accreditation and quality enhancement planning, and he is a national presenter on technical education pathways, competency-based learning, and project management in higher education.

Hutchison holds two undergraduate degrees in aviation, a master’s degree in management, and a doctorate from Old Dominion University. He and his wife, Naomi, have four children and four grandchildren, and they enjoy a small farm in Abingdon, Virginia.
