Dr. William P. Mullaney assumed leadership of SUNY Corning Community College (CCC) as the College’s seventh president in 2019.  When the pandemic hit a few months later, President Mullaney collaborated with NY state officials to host a mass vaccination site in the College’s gymnasium (30,000+ vaccines administered) and established the Baron Necessities Food Pantry for students and community members in partnership with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

Under Dr. Mullaney’s leadership, the College has added degree programs in Mechatronics and Digital Design and non-degree programs in Automotive Technology, Battery Technology, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Clinical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician.  During that time, the College also started the Corning Prison Education Program at the Elmira Correctional Facility and a state-sponsored Education Opportunity Program and significantly expanded its dual enrollment program, which provides tuition-free college classes to high school students in the region.

According to 2024 IPEDS data, CCC’s three-year graduation rate reached 40%, earning the college the top ranking among community colleges in New York State.  Also, for the first time in over a decade, the College experienced an increase in enrollment over the previous year during the 23-24 academic year.  Also in 2024, EDSmart, a global education research firm, ranked CCC fifth out of 121 two-year academic institutions in New York State, based on a number of key indicators including salary after attending, average net price, retention rate, and graduation rate.

Dr. Mullaney proudly represents CCC at the local, state and national level, which was highlighted this year when he was invited to the White House for a conversation entitled “Investing in America,” which included representatives from the DOE, DOL, the Domestic Policy Council, and the President’s Chief of Staff.
