United States
Dr. Janet N. Spriggs became the seventh President of Forsyth Technical Community College on January 1, 2019. With nearly three decades of leadership within the North Carolina Community College System, she previously held significant executive leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Carteret Community College.
Dr. Spriggs’ story begins in Milton, a small, rural, farming community in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and her journey reflects her commitment to the transformative power of education. As a former, low-income, first-generation community college student, she walked the path she now leads others on. Before earning her bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University, her master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Northeastern University, she was a student at Rockingham Community College and Durham Technical Community College.
As a visionary leader, Dr. Spriggs champions community colleges as vital engines for workforce development and economic mobility. She is dedicated to fostering high-quality learning, improving student completion rates, and advancing equity of success for all students. She is committed to a student-centered approach, emphasizing quality learning, nurturing a culture of belonging for each and every student, and breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Her leadership philosophy is captured in her belief that ""At the heart of remarkable leadership lies the courage to dream, the strength to care, and the power of authentic relationships.""
Dr. Spriggs also contributes to several boards, including Greater Winston-Salem, Inc., and serves as Vice President for Membership for the American Association of Women in Community Colleges. Outside of work, she enjoys golfing, photography, crochet, reading, and cherishes time with her husband of almost 40 years, Doug, their five children, and five grandchildren.
