John Hartog became president of Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) in 2021. Prior to assuming this presidency, he had served as the Vice President of Student and Academic Services at NCC from 2011-2021.
Driven to develop people, he enjoys bringing individuals together into high-performing, service-oriented Teams in order to improve accessibility and success for students. He is a recipient of Phi Theta Kappa’s “Paragon Award” for newer community college presidents who have shown support for student success initiatives leading to stronger pathways to completion, transfer, and employment (2023).
In addition to his administrative work, John loves to teach students in online learning environments. Over the past two decades, he has taught online students at six different community colleges, at a state university, at a college of health sciences, at a business college, and at a religious college.
John is a graduate of Calvary University (B.A.), Faith Baptist (M.A. and M.Div.), Grace Seminary (Th.M.), the University of Minnesota (M.A.; Ph.D. ABD), and Central Seminary (Ph.D.). He also completed the coursework for a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Iowa State University.
Curious about all things related to the ancient Near East, John enjoys leading instructional tours to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries.
