Dr. LaTonya M. Nixon-Stith ascribes to “Awaken to the Possibilities” Dr. LaTonya M. Nixon-Stith is a passionate advocate for educational access, particularly for low-income, first-generation, and at-risk students. As someone who has personally navigated these challenges, she has dedicated over 25 years to improving the student experience through innovative programming and transformational leadership in student services.
Dr. Nixon has held impactful roles at several institutions, including Tidewater Community College (VA), Pitt Community College, and Roanoke-Chowan Community College. She currently serves as Vice President of Student Services and Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at Beaufort County Community College. Her leadership has advanced access, retention, and success initiatives throughout the North Carolina Community College System.
A recognized leader, Dr. Nixon has been honored with awards such as Student Services Employee of the Year and TRIO Woman of Substance. She has completed numerous leadership programs, including the NC Community College Leadership Program (NCCCLP), Lakin Leadership Program, and the NCCCS Equity Coach Academy. Deeply involved in her community, Dr. Nixon serves as Vice Chair for Koinonia Community Solutions and the Student Development Administrators Association for the NC Community College System. Her commitment extends to multiple civic and educational boards across the state.
In addition to her professional work, Dr. Nixon is a sought-after worship facilitator and keynote speaker for conferences and commencements. Her most cherished roles, however, are personal—she is the devoted wife of Dr. Ashton Stith, proud mother of Tamika, Trevon, Deshaun, and Jada, and loving grandmother to Jazzy, Marley, and Lucha. Dr. Nixon’s life and leadership are guided by her mantra: “Awaken to the Possibilities,” inspiring others to pursue purpose and possibility through education and service.
