Mike Hobbs is the President of Georgia Highlands College serving North West Georgia and surrounding counties. A native of Ensley, AL, Mike received an AAS degree in Law Enforcement from Jefferson State and a BS in Justice Science and MA in Education/Supervision and Leadership from the University of Alabama Birmingham. He received his Ph.D. in Community College Leadership from Mississippi State University with a teaching emphasis in Economics. Mike has taught Economics at both the undergraduate and graduate level for the last twelve years. Mike is proud to serve as President of an Access college that opens opportunities for all. Having worked in higher education for over twenty-five years, Mike’s passion is working with college students, local youth sports associations, and participating as a Big in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for more than twenty years. Mike is a proud parent of three children: Olivia and twins, Hannah and Hudson.
Mike was elected to St. Clair County School Board, in 2018. He also serves as an executive board member for the Mississippi State Advisory Board for the Department of Leadership & Foundations. In 2019, Mike was presented the Hallmark Award for Distinguished Administrator and Phi Theta Kappa’s Distinguished College Administrator Award. As a graduate of Leadership Birmingham (2016) and the (2017) Class of Leadership St. Clair County, Mike understands the importance of collaboration between business, industry, and educational opportunities. He received the Business Journal of Alabama Movers & Shapers Award in 2017. Mike is also a Fellow with the University of Alabama Education Policy Center. In addition, Mike is a two-time recipient of the ACCA Award of Excellence for educators in the state of Alabama.
