Dr. Nick Velluzzi is deeply committed to socioeconomic justice and the community college mission. Nick has been at Walla Walla Community College for over 11 years where he led the college to become evidence-driven and was an early advocate for embedding inclusion and equity into the college’s operational fabric. Working in a close partnership with local non-profit leaders, he helped create Elevate, a regional cradle to career organization whose mission is educational justice and postsecondary attainment.
Nick is interested in post-graduation success and opportunities for community and technical colleges to lead the development of regional strategies designed to shape job opportunities, career paths, and the contours of labor markets. He currently serves as vice president of Enrollment Services and Institutional Effectiveness.
Nick attended community college in his home state of New Jersey, and in Oregon. He earned a Bachelor’s in International Studies from the University of Oregon, an M.A. in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Washington. During and after college, he spent time in post-war El Salvador working on rural public health projects and community development. Nick served for over ten years as a leader and organizer in the labor movement and taught at the College of Charleston.
