Dr. Scott Peska currently serves as the Assistant Provost for Student Services at Waubonsee Community College. Scott began his career as a hall director at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where he developed his passion for helping students. In 2004, he accepted the Assistant Director of Orientation & First-Year Experience position at Northern Illinois University. In 2008, NIU experienced a mass shooting on campus and Dr. Peska was asked to establish and lead the Office and Support and Advocacy, which helped the students and families directly impacted by the campus tragedy. After the Office of Support & Advocacy concluded the office transitioned into Military Student Services, where Dr. Peska provided direction to support more than 800 military students attending NIU. In 2012, he became the Dean for Students at Waubonsee Community College where he was promoted in 2018 to the Assistant Vice President of Student Services and in 2021 Alumni Relations was added to his portfolio.
Peska proudly received his associate degree from Highland Community College, his baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Illinois State University, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration, with an emphasis on community college leadership, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Peska actively volunteers in leadership positions in his community and professional associations, including Treasurer for NASPA’s IV-East regional board, an advisory board member for the National Center for First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, and a local member of the Elburn Lion’s club. Scott resides in Sycamore, IL with his wife Katie and their three children Julia (15), Brady (13), and Tyler (11).
